Ratan Tata, the revered chairman emeritus of Tata Sons, passed away on Wednesday at the age of 86 in a Mumbai hospital. His death comes after he was admitted for treatment in critical condition, having been in intensive care for several days.
Earlier this week, Ratan Tata had addressed concerns about his health, stating he was undergoing routine medical investigations due to his age and related health issues. Despite reassurances that his medical evaluations were normal, reports of his declining condition surfaced, leading to widespread concern among the public and media.
In a message shared on social media, Tata said, "There is no cause for concern. I remain in good spirits." He urged people not to spread misinformation about his health status.
Ratan Tata was a significant figure in the Indian business landscape, having led Tata Sons since 1991. Under his leadership, he transformed the Tata Group into a global powerhouse, successfully acquiring companies like Tetley, Corus, and Jaguar Land Rover. His tenure saw Tata Group's expansion into a global business empire worth over $100 billion.
In December 2012, Ratan Tata retired from his role as
chairman and was succeeded by Cyrus Mistry, who tragically passed away in a car
accident in 2022.
Ratan Tata's contributions to industry and philanthropy have left an indelible mark on India, and his legacy will continue to inspire future generations.
